Why turn-based tactics still feel best on a phone
There's something about turn-based combat that suits a touchscreen perfectly. No twitch reflexes, no missed taps in a panic — just you, the board, and time to think. It's the genre I keep returning to on mobile.
Emberfall Saga reminded me why. You can pause to read every enemy skill, plan three moves ahead, and undo a fumbled tap in some games. The phone isn't fighting you; it's just a quiet board on a desk.
The downside is pacing. A long tactical fight can eat twenty minutes, which isn't ideal when your battery is low. The best ones let you speed up animations so the thinking is the only slow part.
If you've bounced off action games on mobile because of clumsy virtual buttons, give tactics a real try. The whole genre was practically waiting for the touchscreen.
