Learning to drift in an arcade racer
Arcade racers live or die on how their cars turn, and Neon Drift League got me thinking about how much a good drift can carry a whole game. On the straights you're just holding a button; the corner is where the actual play happens.
At first I fought it, braking too early and killing my speed. The breakthrough came when I stopped treating the drift as a mistake to recover from and started treating it as the line itself.
Once that clicked, the boost you earn from a clean slide became the rhythm of the whole race. String enough together and you can overtake without ever really touching the brakes.
If you've written off arcade racers as button-mashers, spend an hour learning one drift track properly. There's more depth in that slide than the genre gets credit for.
